About Us

What is COPA YCK and what does “Flight 203” mean?

COPA – Canadian Owners and Pilots Association – was founded in 1952 to speak as the unified voice for general aviation in Canada. Since then, COPA has grown to meet the ever-changing needs of the Canadian aviation community and became the recognized voice of general aviation in Canada.

COPA is also active at the grassroots level, with over 200 regional and local chapters which constitute the COPA Flights. Founded early in 2018 by a group of Chatham-Kent aviation enthusiasts (pilots and otherwise) Flight 203 was founded as a Federally registered Not for Profit Corporation.

Since it’s inception this ambitious, volunteer group of 40+ members seek to:

  • promote aviation within and beyond the vast geographic of Chatham-Kent;
  • promote safety, learning and interest in the aviation environment;
  • help raise awareness and advocate for the fantastic facility that is the Chatham-Kent Municipal Airport.

That’s where the YCK comes from: All Canadian Airports are assigned codes and referenced using the phonetic alphabet. In international aviation language, Charlie Yankee Charlie Kilo means Canada, Chatham-Kent, Ontario.

Members of COPA YCK Flight 203 hold monthly meetings the second Monday of each month, where various guests give excellent presentations on various aviation-related topics.  We also host a variety of other events at the airport:

  • Pilot Safety Seminars
  • June through September weekly BBQ Fly-Ins (the driving public is always welcome!)
  • COPA For Kids
  • Flight Fest …..  just to name a few.

These events and activities are only possible through strong community partnerships, and as a result of our excellent volunteers who work hard and have fun! If you are interested in becoming a member of COPA YCK, feel free to contact anyone one of the executive and or email [email protected] for further information. We are passionate about aviation and we want to share it with you!
